Marching Band and Concert Band Storage

Orange Couches and Storage Units

Way back (aahuuhhm) years ago, when I was in high shcool band we rocked. I don't mean to Toot My Own Horn (hahaha, a pun) but our band played music that not even college symphonies played. I still have my favorites, although I probably couldn't tute a single note from my clarinet anymore.

I have not played in for'er (that was for You C!) and the last time I opened my clarinet, the pads were falling off in crumbly pieces. I was quite sad when I looked at what had become of my beautiful instrument that I played so many great pieces with.

I have had that stick of wood (Grenadilla Wood, to be exact) since the 5th grade. The case was lined with velvet padding and the top portion of glue holding the padding in gave way somewhere in middleschool. Ever since that time, I used the case to hold my secret treasures.

I could pull the padding out and stick love letters, or my favorite pieces of music back there. Writing this entry makes me want to go home and see what might be back there!

That reminds me of the band room - my buddies and I brought in an old couch (I think it was 70's orange) and sat in there when we cut classes (sshhh). The walls of the office and every closet were lined with shelves of music. I have NO idea how they kept it all straight.

(I bet Mrs. S would LOVE to have her own music storage space for all the music)

if this inspired band memories for you, join "The Orange Couch" club and tell me about it

March To The Beat Of Your Own Drum
OFFLINE
When I was in High School, my best friend and I would play classical clarinet duets. The State competitions didn't have a competition for duets, so we never got to compete, but we had plenty of quartets and mixed woodwind bands.

The trouble was, the high school only stayed open for a few hours after school for us to practice together. None of our parents wanted a full blown band tooting away all night long. It would have been AWESOME if we had a secure storage unit to practice in.

Nothing is cooler than having your own 'club house' when you still live with your parents. :-)

Marching Into A Storage Unit
OFFLINE
Have you ever seen a parade where there was marching band after marching band? Each band is marked by a huge banner, followed by a fanfare of girls in festive leotards flinging flags or wands or maybe mock-guns. Then the band follows, with a line of drummers at the rear.

Have you taken a look at the drummers? They are literally strapped to the drums.

That all amounts to a good truck load if instruments and boxes. Where does all that go when they aren't marching down Main Street?

Probably a closet in the school somewhere... But wouldn't it be great if they used a professional self storage unit? These facilites offer climate controlled self storage for senstive instruments.

These units are cheap and even moreso sometimes if you rent long term self storage.

Hey, I think schoold also apply for tax exmption! So that makes self storage even more economical.
